Laura Collett wins Badminton 5* 2022
Laura Collett and London 52 have won the 5* Badminton Horse Trials 2022 presented by Mars Equestrian having led the competition from start to finish. Ros Canter and Lordships Graffalo finished second, while Oliver Townend and Swallow Springs were third.
Finishing on a final score of 21.4, a record breaking score for Badminton Horse trials, the combination only added 0.4 of a time fault to their dressage score of 21 with a clear cross country round within the time resulting in a winning margin of 4.6 penalties.
Speaking after the win Laura Collett said “I have no words – that horse is amazing. He jumped his socks off – I couldn’t see a distance anywhere and he just went higher and higher and I’m just so lucky. It’s been my childhood dream – when I was three, my auntie walked me around Badminton on her shoulders when Pippa Funnell won and ever since then, I wanted to be Pippa Funnell.”
Paying tribute to her mum who has supported her throughout Laura’s career and who is from New Zealand where today is mother’s day Laura said “This is for my mum – she’s from New Zealand and it’s Mother’s Day over there today.”
In 2021 Laura Collett and London 52, a 13-year-old, gelding, owned by Keith Scott, Karen Bartlett and Laura were part of the Gold Medal winning event team at the Summer 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, alongside Oliver Townend and Tom McEwen.
