Harry Charles Triumph at London Horse Show
Harry Charles rounded off 2021 with some huge wins at the London Horse Show at ExCel Centre in London’s Docklands. The British showjumper who represented Great Britain at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 2021 won 3 classes and was crowned overall leading rider of the show.
Harry is the son on Tara Charles and showjumper Peter Charles MBE. Peter Charles origionally competed for Great Britain, changing nationalities to Irish in 1992. In 2007 he relinquished his status of an Irish rider and went back to representing Great Britain. In the 2013 New Year Honours he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire, MBE for services to equestriaism.
Peter Charles sold his gold medal winning horse Vindicat W to showjumper Jessica Springsteen – daughter of rockstar Bruce Springsteen.
At the London Horse Show 2021 Harry Charles won the 1.55m Ivy Stakes riding Borsato, the World Cup riding Stardust as well as winning the Grand Prix beating Ben Maher by 4/10th of a second. He was also third in the 1.55m Christmas Cracker and 2nd in the 1.50m Christmas Tree Stakes.
Talking to the audience during the presentation Harry said “Weekends just don’t get better than this; I’ll probably never have another one like this again in my life and what a way to end the year. Thank you to everyone for putting on such a fantastic show in it’s first time here and I can’t wait to come back!”. Harry Went on to say “I think the crowd make the show what it is so thank you to everyone for supporting us.”
