3 Great Horses retire at Badminton 2018

Eventing is a real test of both horse and rider ability. It is really difficult to find a horse that is both talented enough and brave enough to perform at the highest standards over 3 days of competition, where every phase is tested.

This year 3 top event horses retired after very successful eventing careers.

Nereo

Owned by Deborah Seller and ridden by Andrew Nicholson. The combination have won numerous 3* and 4* events across the world, including the 2017 Badminton Horse Trials (which was Andrew’s 36th attempt at the event) They also won team bronze in the London 2012 Olympic Games.

La Biosthetique Sam FBW

Bred by Bunter Seitter and ridden by Michael Yung, together they have won 24 top events across the world. These include winning Badminton (2016) Burghley (2015) and Kentucky (2016) as well as Team Gold in the London 2012 Olympics and Team Silver and Individual Gold at the Rio Olympics 2016.

Mulrys Error

This Irish Sports Horse is part Clydesdale and doesn’t look like your typical event horse. Ridden by Ben Hobday together they have defied all odds, including Ben fighting cancer to become absolute crowd favourites. Mulry and Ben have competed at Badminton and Burghley 4*’s and many 3* including Bramham and Hopetoun House.

The Horse Exchange would like to take the opportunity to thank these great riders and outstanding horses for so many amazing dressage tests, thrilling cross country rounds and incredible show jumping courses. You have filled our hearts with admiration and our heads with inspiration.

Wishing you a long, happy and deserving retirement.
